What annual satellite hotspot totals can and cannot show

Published district totals in Tak and Chiang Rai count satellite hotspot detections. A detection is not a confirmed fire or an independent fire event. Missing districts are unknown, and counts cannot be converted directly into burned hectares.

Procedure

  1. Check that the district is in the published Tak or Chiang Rai coverage.
  2. Use the same annual period and detection definition for comparisons; preserve missing values.
  3. Treat counts as a screening signal and seek confirmed incident or burn-perimeter evidence for impact analysis.

Interpretation checks

Input or conditionHow to interpret it
Repeated detectionsSeveral detections can relate to one event.
Missing districtUnknown coverage, not a count of zero.
Burned areaNeeds separate geometry and validation; a count is insufficient.

Illustrative working example

Code illustrates a review procedure, not an observed result. Replace illustrative inputs with verified records; missing values deliberately remain unknown.

illustration = {"annual_detections": 24, "burned_hectares": None}
# Invented teaching values, not a MapScale observation.
# Never convert detection totals directly into burned area.

Bounded API request

Read-only public request, limited to 100 features. Check HTTP status, freshness and pagination before interpreting the result. Foundation layers use their dedicated APIs; this is not a bulk database export.

curl --fail 'https://api.mapscale.io/v1/public/atlas/layers/fire-hotspots?bbox=98.5%2C16%2C99.5%2C17.5&limit=100'

Useful output and decision limits

An annual district comparison with coverage exceptions for agriculture and public-sector review. It is not a live fire alert or a damage valuation.
