Download Thailand province and district boundaries: GeoJSON and Shapefile
Download 77 province and 928 district reference boundaries in GeoJSON or a real Shapefile ZIP. Both formats contain the same simplified COD-AB geometry and PCODE identifiers, with English and Thai names. Choose GeoJSON for web tools or Shapefile for a GIS workflow; neither is cadastral evidence.
Boundary reference downloads
Same simplified reference geometry in both formats. Source validity is a historical date, not confirmation of present administrative or cadastral boundaries. No account or API key is required.
In QGIS: add the GeoJSON as a vector layer, or extract the ZIP and add the .shp. Keep .shx, .dbf, .prj and .cpg beside it. Confirm EPSG:4326, UTF-8 Thai names and text identifiers. Shapefile field names are id, en, th, plus parent for districts. The archive includes README, licence, source provenance and a manifest; redistribution needs attribution and notice of the simplification.
Source valid on / resource modified / recorded source check: 2022-01-22 / 2026-01-26 / 2026-07-27
Choose the province or district release below and retain its manifest, source date and licence.
Open GeoJSON directly in QGIS, or extract every companion file from the Shapefile ZIP together before opening the .shp file. Confirm WGS84 / EPSG:4326 and UTF-8.
Check 77 province or 928 district records, keep id and parent as strings, and join on PCODE. Review unmatched rows and simplification before publishing.
Interpretation checks
Input or condition
How to interpret it
GeoJSON
A single UTF-8 file with geometry and attributes; longitude precedes latitude. Convenient for JavaScript and web analysis.
Shapefile ZIP
A genuine .shp geometry file plus .shx index, .dbf attributes, .prj projection and .cpg encoding. Keep them together; renaming JSON to .shp is not conversion.
Version and precision
The source is valid on 2022-01-22; resource modified 2026-01-26 and recorded source verification 2026-07-27. Province coordinates use 5 decimal places and district coordinates 4; these do not establish survey accuracy or current legal boundaries.
Illustrative working example
Code illustrates a review procedure, not an observed result. Replace illustrative inputs with verified records; missing values deliberately remain unknown.
# Convert the downloaded simplified WGS84 GeoJSON locally:
mapshaper th-adm1.json -proj wgs84 -o provinces.shp format=shapefile encoding=utf8
# Keep .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj and .cpg together.
# Join on id (PCODE), never on a translated name.
Useful output and decision limits
An attributed regional reference layer for map display and PCODE joins. For cadastral, engineering or legal boundary decisions, obtain authoritative records at the required scale; conversion and coordinate precision do not remove the source geometry simplification.
